Taking It In Stride With ACS

Welcome back Survivors and friends! Whether you’re a folk fan or hold your bible tightly, you either know The Byrds song or the third chapter of Ecclesiastes which inspired the lyrics…
“To everything, turn, turn, turn…
There is a season, turn, turn, turn…
And a time to every purpose, under heaven,
A time to build up, a time to break down,
A time to dance, a time to mourn,
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together.”
So as we shift gears from balmy summer mornings to crisp autumn days, we remember that there is a season to everything beyond just the weather.
While many of our readers are in the thick of their own journeys with breast cancer or supporting a loved one dealing with a diagnosis, we’d like to remind everyone to take a moment to breathe it all in. One day at a time, or one season at a time.
And we’ve mentioned this before, what better way to embrace the change of seasons (literally and figuratively) than to get out and get moving, not only for yourself but for a great cause.
Though half our calendar proceeds go to AAngelsNJ, we applaud all our extended breast cancer families and organizations out there fundraising like The American Cancer Society, which while covering all forms of cancer, makes an admirable effort for breast cancer specifically with its widely recognized Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks.
Many of these walks kick off next month so there’s still time to register and find an event near you.
If you’re in NYC there is a walk in each of the five boroughs on Sunday October 15, as well as on Long Island, in Westchester County, and nearby Newark and Parsippany in New Jersey.
The following weekend, you can catch a walk in either Piscataway or Jersey City, New Jersey.
We hope you can join in Making Strides next month, but we’ll keep you posted on other events throughout the year held by even more of our favorite cancer-fighting foundations.
Until then, break out your sneakers or grab some new Strides gear from ACS like the hoodie pictured above and support the cause that way, and get outside even if just for your own strides!
“Peace is a journey of a thousand miles
and it must be taken one step at a time.”
- Lyndon B. Johnson
We’ll see you later this month and introduce our September survivor, in the meantime, keep your Eye On Strength :)
